Welsh student sings I Dreamed A Dream with pizza lyrics

It’s said there’s no such thing as a free lunch – unless you sing for it that is, as one Welshman has proved.

Music student David Jones, 18, from Cwmbran, put his stunning bass vocals to good use to try and bag himself a free pizza at his local branch of Domino’s on Thursday morning.

Literally singing for his supper, he performed an oddly beautiful version of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables with pizza-themed lyrics, that began: ‘I dreamed a dream of pizza sauce…’

And his efforts paid off, as David walked off with a free large Hawaiian pizza just eight minutes later.

I dreamed a dream of pizza sauce…

With cheese on top and dough on bottom…

And in between that pizza sauce…

There was ham and pineapple and they called it Hawaiian…

And the size it would be large…

And the base Italiano…

I have waited for this day…

When they made my pizza free…

David, who will study music at the University of Bristol from September, posted a video of the hilarious rendition to Facebook this morning, which is now being widely shared online.

Singing for pizza may seem like an odd thing to do, but David was prompted to sing his 40-second version of the classic musical number to bemused staff members after Domino’s announced it would give out free pizzas for those willing to sing for their supper on Thursday in Wales.

The competition is to mark the 20th anniversary of the pizza giant’s first store in Wales.

David is a member of the choir Only Boys Aloud, an off-shoot of the BBC’s Last Choir Standing winners, Only Men Aloud – so naturally his singing pipes were up to the challenge.

David told FEMAIL: ‘Well, I woke up about 9am this morning to a message off my mum.

‘She linked me to an article that said Domino’s were going to give away free pizza to the first 20 customers that sung to their workers today as hey’re celebrating 20 years since the opening of their first store in Wales.

He added: ‘So I thought, “Eh why not!”

‘I headed to Dominos to see if they’d had anyone come into store yet. They said no so I sang!

‘It took me all of five minutes to come up with the premise of the song.

‘I knew what pizza I wanted so the lyrics were easy and I picked “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Mis because its a well-known song.’

His friends went wild for the video, which has already had 1,000 views in just three hours.

David said: ‘In all honesty, I was wondering if it was going to be a gimmick, like a really belated April Fool’s.

‘But to my surprise it worked!’
